Are you missing summer? Lazy days at the beach? Well here is the perfect way to take that vacation with you! This is a charming little copper shell pendant, a perfect simple necklace for him or for her. It is an exact replica of a tiny sand dollar collected (already dead) from the shores of the Florida Panhandle. A mold was made of the sand dollar, then the pendant was hand-formed using copper metal clay. A verdigris patina was added to give it an amazing ancient appearance, as if it just washed up from Atlantis! The sweet little shell hangs on an 18" brown leather cord, which is finished with a copper S-hook and embellished with a tiny Mikonos copper shell.
The sand dollar is a symbol of tranquility, harmony, and good fortune. It is often associated with beach life and the wonders of the ocean, creating a sense of connection to nature. The necklace, with its leather cord and copper pendant, embodies the essence of wanderlust and adventurous spirits, making it a perfect accessory for free-spirited bohemian souls.
The leather cord in this necklace is of the highest quality, soft and supple. It is produced in the United States, sourced from Texas, where it is made with environmentally friendly chemicals and dyes.
>>>Copper metal clay is an eco-friendly product made from recycled metal. The metal is ground into fine particles which are mixed with an organic cellulose binder and water to form a clay, which is then molded then fired and returned to its metal state. The clay used here is Art Clay Copper, from Aida Chemicals in Japan, which is a green company.
+++In most places, it is illegal to collect live sand dollars. You can tell it's alive if it is dark colored and covered in tiny hair-like spines. They use these spines to move around the ocean floor, and also to carry food to their mouth. After they die and living tissue dies away, what's left is the skeleton, which is made of a calcium carbonate which bleaches white. It's fine to collect the white ones when you're lucky enough to find one! Ancient legend tells that sand dollars are coins lost by Mermaids or washed up from the mythical continent of Atlantis. In Christian legend, the 5 slits on the front represent the 5 wounds on Christ's body after the crucifiction; on the back is an outline of a Poinsettia, called the Christmas flower based on a Mexican legend; and when broken open, 5 dove shaped pieces will fall out - doves being a symbol of peace and good will.
***Copper is often used to help lesson the symptoms of arthritis and rheumatism, and to improve circulation. As a conductor of electricity and heat, it is also believed to conduct spiritual energy.
