These conversation starter earrings look like pretty, sparkly, long dangles at first glance, but look closer! Raw rubies sit in silver claws while in contrast elegant moonstones glow in vibrant colors. The surprise swinging from the bottom is a pair of fossilized manatee teeth! Who doesn't love those gentle cows of the water (except my niece, Michelle!)

Being from Florida, I have an affinity for those splendid mammals of the sea. To watch the gentle manatee float peacefully down the rivers and gather in the springs brings a sense of tranquility and brings a smile to your face. But wait...manatee teeth in your jewelry??? Well why not?

These eco-friendly earrings are part of my Urban Archaeology collection, a question of what future generations might think of us. These pieces feature chunks of tortured silver, recycled scraps that have been fused to form surprising and intriguing forms. Natural gems and ancient relics join in unexpected combinations. This handmade pair of funky bohemian long dangle earrings exude a captivating charm, blending elements of nature and artisanal craftsmanship. The base of these earrings is forged from sterling silver, expertly fused and shaped to form an unique framework. This sterling silver foundation serves as a canvas for the other natural elements to shine. Raw rubies top the dangles, with their rich hue and raw, uncut beauty, are tightly grasped in silver claws.  Swinging below the rubies are glowing rainbow moonstones, each exhibiting a mesmerizing play of iridescent colors. ***Manatees are curious and friendly animals. Due to the lack of natural predators, their relaxed disposition they often behave more like cats than cows, investigating with their whiskers, showing curiosity towards humans or turning an aloof fin. Their need for warm water draws them to the inland springs where it is possible to see hundreds gathered and passively floating. Manatees can live up to 60 long, happy years paddling around and munching sea grass. But research has shown that few live past the age of 30. Probably half of all manatee deaths are a result of human intervention such as collisions with watercraft, entanglement with discarded fishing lines and nets, and drowning as a result of entrapment in flood gates and canal locks. Almost every adult manatee has slash scars on their back from boat propellers. Their numbers have dwindled in recent years and are now protected under federal law by the Marine Mammal Protection Act of 1972, and the Endangered Species Act of 1973, which make it illegal to harass, hunt, capture, or kill any marine mammal. They are also protected by the Florida Manatee Sanctuary Act of 1978. Violations of these federal or state laws can be met with civil or criminal convictions associated with monetary fines and/or imprisonment.

***The red variety of corundum (blue corundum is known as sapphire), ruby is a powerful grounding stone, helping to bring focus and clarity as well as wisdom. ***Moonstone enhances intuition and strength, and promotes inspiration. It calms and soothes the emotions. It is a stone of inner growth and strength. Moonstone is also believed to bring good fortune in love and business. It resonates with the third solar plexus chakra, Manipura, which is the source of personal power, and the sixth third eye chakra, Ajna, the center of intuition, imagination, wisdom, and the ability to think and make decisions. Moonstone is a birthstone of the sun signs of Cancer, Libra and Scorpio and for the month of June
