>>>Graffiti Fordite, or GRAFFite, is made up of many layers of naturally accumulated spray paint. These pieces have been accumulating for 20-30 years, that's 20+ years of history in each piece! Over time, graffiti artist after artist coats an outdoor surface, such as a bridge girder, with 20 to 25 layers of paint. Exposed to Detroit’s grinding summers and winters, “eventually that paint will get too heavy for the wall or crack and flake off.” The sloughed off material is stabilized, cut and shaped into cabochons. Much of the material has been collected from many of Detroit’s abandoned railroad corridors and infrastructure. This particular piece came from a playground.
