Rainbow calsilica is one of the most fascinating stones around. It took me a LOT of research to finally figure out what it actually is, or maybe actually is, there's a great deal of misinformation out there. The first stone I bought, from a trusted gemologist, I was told was a rare stone from a secret mine in northern Mexico. A real wild west kind of story. But as I started digging, I found many questions about the veracity of that story, as nobody seemed to be able to get any hard information about this mine. Well, long story short, I finally came upon what seems to be the more plausible story, if not quite so exciting. They make a lot of tile in Mexico, in many lovely colors. So apparently the run-off, the slag, flows off into some kind of retention area. As different hues of tile are made, layers of these colors build, baking in the sun to become hard as stone - just like the tile. But someone figured out that when it's cut, the various colors show through in swirling layers! Like I said, not so exciting a story, but a gorgeous "stone" nonetheless! As it has gained in popularity, along with similar storied "stones" like Fordite, many fakes have turned up. I say fakes because while this stone is apparently man-made, it still has a very organic feel in it's earthy colors and random forms. The "fakes" will appear in vibrant primary colors with a very plastic appearance. I can't offer an advisory on how to identify the "real" thing, but it is certainly easy to spot one that is as beautiful as this one!

Mexican fire opal has been treasured since the time of the Aztec and the Maya. It is a captivating gemstone known for its fiery hues of orange, red, and yellow.  Unlike other opals, it typically lacks the opalescent play-of-color but compensates with its intense and warm tones, caused by traces of iron. True to its name, this stone was born from fire, formed within the deepest parts of ancient volcanoes. Water flowed into silica-rich lava, was trapped in its seams and pockets, and under extreme pressure and heat was transformed into the beautiful stone we prize today. The gemstone is often cut in cabochon form left in its native rock to showcase its vibrant colors.

The leather cord is of the finest quality, soft and supple. It is produced in the United States, sourced from Texas where it is processed with environmentally friendly chemicals and dyes.
